RAY GUO

Hey, everyone. Welcome to the Dream Team podcast. We invite the coolest companies to highlight the growth of their organization to our audience of awesome talent. Looking to join fast growing companies. In this episode, we're going to be discussing what Cuberg does and what they’re looking for in their next hire.

So today our guest is Jordan from the incredible team at Cuberg.

I'd love to turn the mic around to you and ask what problem is your company solving?

JORDAN ELKINS

Hi, my name is Jordan. I'm the Head of Talent here at Cuberg. I'll start with lithium ion battery technology because that is an amazing technology and a key part of decarbonizing our future, but it is very heavy.

Where Cuberg comes in, is we're working with breakthrough chemistry to help solve the problems that lithium ion batteries can't inherently solve. Specifically, we're working to solve the problem of decarbonizing aviation.

The Cuberg battery is lightweight, high performance, and it's compatible with industry standard manufacturing methods.

RAY GUO

Awesome. I mean, first of all, that is absolutely incredible to hear about. That's an incredibly important problem space you're solving. I'm sure a lot of our listeners at this point are probably curious, you know, where is the company at today? So I'd love it if you could highlight some of the progress and any interesting milestones that the company has achieved recently.

JORDAN ELKINS

Yeah. I’ll start with Richard Wang, who is our CEO and founder. He started Cuberg back in 2015. In 2021, Cuberg was acquired by Northvolt -- for those who don't know, Northvolt is a Swedish Battery manufacturer -- and Cuberg is now a semi-autonomous subsidiary of Northvolt. It's been a really great partnership because we now have the agility of a start up with the stability of an international corporation and since the acquisition, Cuberg has grown from 25 employees to where we are looking at ending 2023 with over 200.

RAY GUO

That is absolutely amazing to hear about, I mean. First of all. Huge Congrats on the acquisition stuff. You know, quite a transformative time at Cuberg. Now, I'm sure a lot of our listeners have been hearing about the exciting news are probably wondering how can I get a seat on this absolute rocket ship of a company? I'd love it if you could highlight some of that open roles you're currently hiring for as well as what types of folks you’re looking for.

JORDAN ELKINS

Cool, thanks! I’ll start out by saying that going from 25 to over 200 people, we’re hiring across the board so it really does not matter your background. If you’re interested in checking us out, please do – you’ll probably find a role.

At the moment we are putting a lot of effort into our Battery Systems team. Looking for folks who have experience with embedded software and high voltage systems. Also, our cell technology teams need folks with materials background who are interested in the actual chemistry and design of the cell itself.

Beyond that, we have everything in terms of operations and manufacturing. We’re looking for folks who want to be in our lab or work on our pilot lines as technicians. I really encourage everyone to come check us out.

RAY GUO

Now, I’m sure a lot of listeners are probably curious what it’s like actually working at the company. So, I’ll ask a follow-up question: what’s the most exciting part for you about being part of Cuberg?

JORDAN ELKINS

When you join Cuberg, you’re part of the global effort to decarbonize our entire economy and breaking through the next generation of battery technology. It’s really exciting.

RAY GUO

Awesome. That really goes to show the shared vision of the company and being part of that cause. At this point, a lot of our listeners are wondering: how can I stand out amongst the stack of resumes? What’s some advice you’d like to give?

JORDAN ELKINS

You can read a lot about Cuberg, but one thing that really stands apart is our culture. When someone comes in to interview, we really try to help them see that we live by our values. Humility, pragmatism, purpose, empowerment, integrity.

These aren’t just words on our website. It’s something you experience while you’re working here.

The team is truly amazing and collaborative. I’ve worked at several other large, well-known companies, and I think what we have here is really special.

RAY GUO

I love that. I love that. I think that really speaks volumes about the type of culture that you're really building at the company.

What’s something that most folks might not know about the company right away?

JORDAN ELKINS

The culture, and, again, I want to highlight our battery system team. It’s really unique to a battery cell company to have an internal team that is focused on creating customized packs and modules for the customer. And I think we have a best in class team for that.

RAY GUO

Amazing. Amazing. Well, perfect. And we're slightly running up against the clock now. So it's time for the golden question of the podcast, that golden question being really if you had to boil down the essence of Cuberg into, let’s say, a 60-second pitch. Please tell the listeners why they should work at your company.

JORDAN ELKINS

Okay, awesome!

Cuberg is a subsidiary of Northvolt and we combine the agility and disruptive ambition of a startup with the stability and scale of a multinational enterprise.

We’re solving some of the world’s most challenging problems with a first-of-it’s-kind breakthrough battery technology. The work here has global impact on solving the problem of decarbonizing our future.

You’ll get to work alongside top leaders in the battery industry, and an incredible team of smart, humble individuals who are collectively really passionate about their work.

From my personal perspective, I go to bed, and I wake up every morning with a really deep sense of purpose and pride in the work we do as a company.

RAY GUO

Amazing. Amazing. I absolutely love that. Now. I think that was our short, sweet and incredibly compelling pitch. Awesome. Now as we close out the episodes, where are there any last details you're like a picture applicant to know about when it comes to Cuberg.

JORDAN ELKINS

I would just say – apply. I think that a lot of folks may think they don’t have battery experience, so they can’t apply to our company. But, as I mentioned before, we really are interviewing and have positions open across the board and we’re happy to train people in this technology.

Don’t let anything hold you back from checking us out and sending us your resume.
